About SuperWalk for Parkinson's
Canada’s SuperWalk for Parkinson’s is the largest national fundraising event for Parkinson Society Canada (PSC). Over 80 communities across Canada participate in this extraordinary event in the month of September. More than 13,000 walkers and volunteers from coast-to-coast organize and take part in SuperWalk to raise money to help ease the burden for the over 100,000 Canadians living with Parkinson's, until a cure is found.
This year our goal is $2.4 million to continue to grow and build SuperWalk as PSC's foremost fundraising event.
Funds Raised: Where the Dollars Go
Since 2000, SuperWalk has raised $16 million to fund vital research, education, support and advocacy, which affects over 100,000 Canadian’s with Parkinson’s disease and their 400,000 family, friends and caregivers. In 2008, SuperWalk raised a record $2.4 million. To see your dollars at work, view our Annual Report.
Funds raised support:
- Research: Over the past year PSC awarded more than $1.2 million to 19 vital research projects.
- Education: New initiatives were launched including the Health Care Professionals Forum and a brand new website.
- Support Services: PSC awarded ten Clinical Assistance grants and seven Community Outreach grants totaling $610,000 over a two year period.
- Advocacy: Efforts were made to continue to lobby the provincial and federal governments to recognize the National Advocacy Network and the many initiatives put forth by PSC.
